What herbs grow fast and easily from cuttings?
I have a uni group project involving a public display. I suggested giving out herb cuttings under the belief that the ridiculous amount of parsley growing in my garden could be cut and divided into separate portions. Turns out apparently parsley won’t grow from cuttings so my question is:
What herbs/small plants will grow fast and easily from cuttings? The display is in two weeks so any help would be appreciated.
Other plants which grow really good as cuttings:
- Peppermint
- Pelargonium, try to obtain scented-leaf varieties( like Pelargonium crispum (Lemon scented), grows like crazy!) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelargonium)
- Coleus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solenostemon_scutellarioides)
How far in advance do good cooks put herbs in tomato based spaghetti sauce?
I´ve heard some herbs go in the sauce first thing, while some herbs should go in the sauce 5 minutes before serving.
Depends if they are dried throw them in at the begginging and let them simmer but if they are fresh wait untill about 5 minutes till the end so they still hold some flawor and look purdyy lol
Growing vegetables, herbs and plants inside, no direct sunlight?
I would love to grow vegetables in pots in my patio area and herbs on my windowsill, however my kitchen windowsill opens into a completely enclosed patio area (it might as well be an extra room) so there is no natural sunlight available. Does anyone know if/how I can grow vegetables and herbs in pots with no direct sunlight? Which ones should I choose?
Thanks ![]()
It’s difficult to grow herbs with no sun light but you can use full spectrum fluorescent tubes and hang the lights a few inches above the plants for greater light intensity.
I want to grow herbs in my garden window, can I grow garlic on my own with them too?
I’ve never grown herbs before but we’ve got this nifty garden window in the kitchen and I want to grow basil, cillantro, oregano, maybe some thyme. First off, are these herbs compatible to grow in close proximity? Secondly, how difficult is it to grow my own garlic? And lastly, can I grow garlic near these herbs in the same garden window?
All these herbs are compatible but put them in different pots or they’ll try to compete one another out of existence. Garlic is pretty easy to grow but it doesn’t seem to taste as strong as supermarket garlic. Just start with one clove and it will sprout green onion-like stalks out the pointy end.
