I am allergic to dust and mold? What is the best medicine out there to permanently resolve this problem ?

Everyone responds to treatment differently. You have to find out what is best for you. I, personally was allergic (anaphylactic reaction) to the allergy medication the doctors had prescribed. Allergy shots were out of the question.

You might familiarize yourself in how to avoid mold and dust or cut down your exposure to either.

What is the best medicine for chronic pain in spine?

Posted on September 3rd, 2010 by admin in medicine | 4 Comments »

I have had a crushed spinal cord and am so tired of the pain. I would perfer a medicine that is not something that is addictive or that will make me dopey.

Pain relievers are tricky meds. Voixx was a cox-2 inhibitor, and pulled from the market, as you know, but Celebrex is still available. Cox-2 enzyme is necessary for cardiac health, so eliminate Celebrex as a consideration. Additonally, we are learning that Motrin (Ibuprofin) is also not really great when it comes to the heart muscle, and doctors are getting literature now that suggests it too is detrimental. Aleve seems to be clear of any really serious side effects except that as all of the nsaid’s it is bothersome to stomach. You could try that one, if you have not already done so. Available generic, and otc.

You may find a combination of tylenol/darvon helpful — it’s call darvocet, script only. In the amounts generally prescribed, it is not toxic to the liver, but tylenol in huge amounts, esp with alcohol will indeed "melt" you liver. So, if you try Darvocet, limit your alcohol intake.

Chronic pain is tough to deal with. There are some new modalities available — one is a pain delivery system to the site itself. You’ll need to see a guy who specialized in pain management, and pain management alone. The best oral pain relievers are those that are morphine based. They do indeed make one a little dopey in the beginning, but one can usually push thru that, and be pretty pain free, and still alert. The side effect, of course is constipation.

How long does it take for deworming medicine given to my dog to work?

Posted on September 1st, 2010 by admin in medicine | 2 Comments »

My puppy was diagnosed with roundworms (GROSS!!). She was given deworming medicine this afternoon at the vet’s office. How long does it take to run its course and if treatment goes well, how long until she’s rid of the worms?

Side note: We have another dose of medicine to give 2 weeks from today and an appointment in four weeks.

Thanks!

Next time she poops it will probably have worms depends on how bad the infestation was.

What makes you think alternative medicine is effective?

Posted on August 29th, 2010 by admin in medicine | 8 Comments »

Indeed, western medicine can be risky. But alternative medicines are not usually backed by any kind of science. Which is not to say that science does not study nature and plants in relation to human health. Aspirin was discovered in the bark of a type of tree.

But with such concrete science backing western medicine and next to no science behind alternative medicine, why should I believe it’s effective?

there is science to some alternative medicine and many are attempts at extracting the ingredients yourself, which is silly if you can buy better stuff for your needs but is a tradition that should be remembered like moon shining and home brew. .

How badly will socialized medicine hurt the medical salaries?

Posted on August 27th, 2010 by admin in medicine | 4 Comments »

I am thinking of studying to become an anesthesiologiest, but with the possiblility of socialized medicine and healthcare…Will they still make the LARGE salaries that they do today? Im not just in it for the money, but im also not down for 12 years of training for a much lower pay. Any thoughts>?

In a comparison with the United Kingdom, you have to compare their income as it relates to their cost of living.

An anesthesiologist working for the NHS averages about $160,000 usd per year.
Average 3 bdrm 2 bath 1 living detached home $412,000 in a rural area (not a major city)

Using San Antonio Texas as it falls close to the US median for cost of living, and income,

Anesthesiologist salary average $278,000 per year.
Average 3 bdrm 2 bath 1 living detached home $150,000.

Incidentally a Big Mac also cost almost double the cost in the UK.

So under socialized medicine an anesthesiologist makes about $118,000 less a year, their house cost $262,000 more and they pay double the price for food. Utilities are also much higher.

That would actually compare to the US anesthesiologist making an equivalent salary of about $80,000 a year.

What is the best medicine to take for a really bad toothache?

Posted on August 14th, 2010 by admin in medicine | 5 Comments »

I won’t be getting to the dentist for another couple of days, and the entire left side of my head is throbbing. Which is the best OTC medicine to take? Tylonol? Ibuprofin? Asprin? What worked for you?

I’d use ibuprofen on a regular schedule and maybe a little benzocaine (such as in Anbesol or Orajel) or even the old remedy of oil of cloves. The stuff tasts right nasty but it does relieve tooth pain. Just keep it away from your tongue.

Depending on what’s actually going on, some ice chips might also help. They might have the opposite effect, so be cautious.

What is the best medicine to cure colds?

Posted on August 11th, 2010 by admin in medicine | 1 Comment »

During allergy season, I will always catch a cold. What is a medicine or tips to stay cold-free?

Vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate. This is the active ingredient. Make sure you buy high-quality so that you really are getting enough. Just give yourself a boost with this.

Alternatively, if you know a good homeopath, mine prescribes "flu drops" for me. All it does is boost your T cells which fight things like colds etc.
