What are some healthy alternative dinner ideas?
I’m a teenager and I’m trying to eat a whole lot healthier. I cut out drinking soda and fast food. For suppers my dad makes greasy food containing loads of meats. If anyone could give me any healthy easy meals to make that still fill my pyramid chart, that would be great! Thank you!
- salads (with low-fat or fat free dressing- or even no dressing)
- a portion or two of healthy meat with plenty of vegetables
- fruit for dessert instead of dessert dishes

Sandwiches are a great tasting-and healthy-alternative! Just be sure not too include too much meats or cheeses. Adding vegetables will also fit into your food pyramid, and you will have a lot more energy. Also, eating fish and lean white meats, such as chicken breast is always healthy, and tastes good.

Good for you for taking control of your diet. It sounds like at home meat is the centerpiece of the meal, which is common here in the states. Other cultures make meat protein secondary: vegies and carbs come first. It would be good if you learn to stir-fry vegies and steam rice, and salads without heavy dressing are always a good choice.
Easy Stir-Fry
1/2 lb. sirloin steak in thin slices, marinated in 1/4 c. soy sauce mixed w/ 2 t. cornstarch, for one hour
2 T. oil (peanut or sesame are best, but any will do)
1 lg. clove garlic, minced
1 onion, sliced into thin rings and halved
1/2 red bellpepper, cut into strips
1/2 green bellpepper, cut into strips
2 c. broccoli, cut into small florets
1/2 c. beef (or veg. or chicken) broth mixed w/ 1 tbs. soy sauce and 1 tb. cornstarch and a few shakes of powdered ginger
salt and pepper to taste
In very large saucepan or wok, heat oil until shimmering and add beef. Stir-fry quickly about 3-4 minutes and set aside. Let wok come up to temp again and add garlic, bellpeppers and onion, stir-frying quickly about 3-4 minutes. When barely tender, add to set-aside beef. bring wok up to temp again, and stir-fry broccoli about 5 minutes, till barely tender. Add set-aside ingredients to wok, and mix thoroughly. Pour broth mixture over and let simmer till thickened and clear; you can add a bit more broth if mixture is too thick. Taste for salt and pepper and correct; serve w/ brown rice or panfried soba (buckwheat noodles) and soy or tamari sauce. enjoy.
