How badly will socialized medicine hurt the medical salaries?
I am thinking of studying to become an anesthesiologiest, but with the possiblility of socialized medicine and healthcare…Will they still make the LARGE salaries that they do today? Im not just in it for the money, but im also not down for 12 years of training for a much lower pay. Any thoughts>?
In a comparison with the United Kingdom, you have to compare their income as it relates to their cost of living.
An anesthesiologist working for the NHS averages about $160,000 usd per year.
Average 3 bdrm 2 bath 1 living detached home $412,000 in a rural area (not a major city)
Using San Antonio Texas as it falls close to the US median for cost of living, and income,
Anesthesiologist salary average $278,000 per year.
Average 3 bdrm 2 bath 1 living detached home $150,000.
Incidentally a Big Mac also cost almost double the cost in the UK.
So under socialized medicine an anesthesiologist makes about $118,000 less a year, their house cost $262,000 more and they pay double the price for food. Utilities are also much higher.
That would actually compare to the US anesthesiologist making an equivalent salary of about $80,000 a year.

I don’t think we are going to have socialized medicine.
None of the candidate are proposing anything close to the cost efficient systems that every other developed nation in the world has. All of the candidates want everything to stay the same, but to also require everyone, who can afford it, to purchase insurance. (Milliions and millions of Americans can afford insurance but chose not to buy it because they would rather spend their money on other things.)
The program that Hillary is proposing would only increase the amount of money spent on healthcare. She wants to require everyone to purchase insurance or go to jail.
The salaries are going to stay high. Also, even if the salaries were lowered, doctors still couldn’t earn anywhere close to the salaries that they make working in any other profession.
Good luck.

Wow a greedy American only in it for the money. So let’s screw the impoverished with NO health care. As long as you can pay your own medical bills and the mortgage on your million dollar mansion and your yacth. That is really selfish thinking.

To Robin G…..
I’m not sure how to respond to you on this website, but i am BL under a diff. name, so here goes. For you to criticize my dreams and asperations with words like greed and selfish really pisses me off. You may not be american, but I am, and I know that only insentives promote competition and therefore the enbetterment of healthcare in general. Also, how do you know that I plan on being a millionaire? Most medical professions do not make over 120,000 a year. And thats the high end. Okay, maybe that’s "rich" to you, but for the ceo’s and the corruption that exists there it’s not. Don’t bash me because I want to insure a sound financial future for myself and my children. And ya, I don’t give a FUCK about those "impovished" people without healthcare. More than 80% of jobs in america provide medical insurance, so "all those" doen’t really make sense to say. For the drug dealers and prostitues out there, ya, sorry you have to pay to get your gunshot wounds cared for, but for all LEGITAMENT cases out there, there are funds and organizations to assist you. So, maybe I want to work hard, go through 8 years of college and 4 years of residency to achieve my dream. And MAYBE if everyone else (the impovished and YOU!!) would have a better work ethic and set goals for yourselves, we could all live in mansions and drive yatchs. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that healthcare should be affordable and available, but to say that these people w/o it are victims and "[poor" is unreasonable. GO TO COLLEGE, GET A DEGREE, GET A JOB!!!….And you should have nothing left to Bitch about. (btw you’re probley a democrat, so you should know better than anyone that there are government aids to help those without healthcare, and thanks to ppl like you, the possibility that I HAVE TO PAY for those poor, lazy, uneducated people is a reality. So thanks.
