How are humans living in a technological society exempt from natural selection?

These things have no effect on evolution, defined as natural selection. There is no such thing as artificial selection for humans, this is because we are living in nature so if you are talking about EVOLUTION or NATURAL SELECTION then technology has no bearing on these. Evolution is an adaptation to the environment which causes an organism to outcompete it other organisms and therefore pass on its genes. Technology doesn’t effect our ability to pass on our genes, but it does allow for the weak to survive. There is many psychologies as to who is perceived as "strong" and if you watch the psychology of sex it becomes apparent as to the evolutionary mechanisms that are burned into our brain. Just food for thought.

who survives to pass on their genes isn’t determined by environmental pressure, but by social presures and cultural norms.
as such, no natural selection. only artificial selection

They are not exempt from natural selection, but the kinds of selective influences are different. Social selection is still natural selection. A short answer would be that the predominant pressures are less physical, and more behavioral, than those faced by humans in a more primitive society.

"Success" in evolutionary terms is the production of offspring that survive and also produce offspring. Everything that influences this process is "Natural Selection," even if the pressures are human social ones.
