Is it too late for me to reap benefits of vegetarianism or a more natural life-style?

Can older people really reverse disorders (like blocked arteries and heart disease) from a vegetarian or natural living style? I’ve read it works with diabetes, but what about heart disease? Is it once those arteries are clogged and hardened up with plaques and cholesterol that it cannot be undone or do I have a chance to undo all those years of damage?

There was a book by Dr. Dean Ornish in the 90’s about reversing heart disease through diet and lifestyle changes that said yes indeed it is possible to even reverse heart disease. I think later he came out with another couple books too. I don’t know if the book was entirely vegetarian. I seem to recall that it included fish or fish oil, but you could research more about his work online. His plan did significantly remove animal products from the diet. There are also omega 3 fatty acid alternatives to fish oil available in the marketplace now– made from algae sources..

It’s never too late to be healthier. Eating healthy foods and getting the right kind of exercise will help you no matter how old you are.

A healthy lifestyle won’t instantly and magically change all the damage from years of hard living but it WILL help.

People rely far too much on drugs and/or surgeries (which admittedly are needed sometimes) to unclog arteries and deal with health problems but I believe that changing your lifestyle is far more effective, not to mention far more enjoyable.

For sure! I got to see a presentation from a cardiologist at a hospital near where I go to school who talked about the effects vegetarianism can have on the reversal of heart disease. 90% of heart disease can be prevented through lifestyle. Vegetarianism has been shown to have similar effects as invasive surgeries without the potential risks. Read the book the China Study by T Colin Campbell because it goes over such subjects.

    Well yes actually you can…
I have a teacher who had cancer a few years back… The doctors told her she was going to die and they didn’t know how long she had to live.
They told her that she might have to go to Asia for certain treatments that are not legal here and even with the treatments, she could die because it could kill her or it may not work and the cancer would.
So she got scared because she had a baby and she was a single mother. She went on a raw diet for six month es. She just ate vegetables and fruit and she COMPLETELY stuck to this diet.
Well anyway, after six months she kept going to the doctor. They could no longer find the cancer after six months…
Which i was amazed by that because i knew she had cancer, and i knew she was a vegetarian for like 6 years but i had no idea that it had saved her life.
So yes i think that a vegetarian diet could help if you research it and make sure you are getting the right nutrients.

Sadly about a year ago, she started eating meat again.. shes kind of pudgy now but the vegetarian diet really changed her because although she eats meat she still sticks to a way healthier diet.

Not unnecessarily "unblock them" BUT at the same time, you will slow down or stop the build up of plaques and reduce the level of cholesterol in your system (so the body needs to burn what excess cholesterol deposits >or fat deposits it has at hand) first. Kinda comparable to collecting firewood for the fireplace 365 days of the year and storing the stuff that cannot be burned that day in the backyard. The next day you go out and collect more firewood and burn some of what you brought (not burning it all, the remainer is added to the other firewood you collected the day before) And do this day after day for a bunch of years.
If you are like most people you only have so much back yard. And the piles of wood build up and up(just like fat deposits) .
The solution is to stop collecting new firewood, and burn off the excess "stores" of wood you have in the backyard. While you cannot cut it off completely(that would be like "not eating" you can say collect small amounts of starter wood and paper which starts the fire quickly and is gone and then you can continue burning using the wood you have stored . It is a slow process. But it was a slow process to build up the massive amount you have.

I realize this is not the greatest analogy but it kinda works like that. Eating vegetables is starting fuel(as there is "no fat" in vegetables or fruit-so there is no increase to the wood pile out back…..if anything, wood has to be taken from there to finish consuming(burning) the vegetable energy.

Hope you get the general idea.

Vegetarianism and Veganism probably won’t help as much as raw veganism for healing the body.
There are so many fatty foods still as a vegetarian and not as much as veganism. Raw veganism, however, gives plenty of vitamins and detoxes your body clean. People have said it removed cysts, got rid of their breast cancer, got them to their regular weight…etc. I’m pretty sure 6 months on a raw vegan food diet would help reduce plenty of damages in your body. its never too late to be healthy.
