What are some possible careers/college majors for someone who likes nutrition and engineering?
I like learning about food and nutrition (including the science behind it). However, I’m also pretty sure I want to be an engineer. I start college next year and want to pick a major that will suit my interests. Right now, my major is Civil Engineering, but I have come to love learning about nutrition, etc. Does anyone have any ideas?
Chemical engineering might be a good fit, since you like the science part of food and engineering. Find out if there are any food/nutrition classes at your school and take as many of those as you can. Look for a research mentor to work under.

Food packaging. At Purdue University in Indiana you can get your PhD in it. It is a serious industry

Chemical engineering or pharmacy seem to be good fits. All engineering really is is math and problem solving. Although chemical engineering includes metallurgy (sometimes), materials (such as polymers, circuitboards, elasticity, ferromagnetism, etc.) and a few other things, it also entails chemical processes behind drug synthesis, absorption rates, etc. which would fall under nutrition.
There is, however, a gap between civil and chemical engineering: civil engineering deals with macroscopic things (often very very big things) and classical laws of physics, whereas chemical engineering deals with microscopic things (most of them too small to even detect with anything but an ICP-MS [look it up]) and quantum mechanics (how electrons move around, etc.). The math and concepts are very different, although the basic idea (math and problem solving) is the same.

There are plenty of really good schools that offer degrees in food engineering, food sciences and or food technology. It’s a great career area. It’s BIG business, food is.

Food science and engineering are very involved.
Look for schools that have both large food science and engineering programs, then look more carefully to see if they have programs that combine those two interests.
Often, this stuff will fall under chemical engineering, nutrition, or biological engineering as well.

I’m at the University of Illinois, where I have some friends and have met people working on stuff like biopackaging, food delivery systems, and food (sugar) substitutes.

Look into becoming a Registered Dietitian.
Please make sure that you go to an accredited university that will lead to becoming a licensed Registered Dietitian.. .
after graduating. they are in great demand. and make good $ , check out a job descriptions under the "occupational outlook"… another good reference for those in search of that great occupation…states projected Job opening, educational requirements salaries and job description.
