What Type of Alcohol Treatment is the Best for Your Loved Ones?

Posted on March 21st, 2011 by admin in general | No Comments »

It is reported in numerous credible studies that nearly 700,000 Americans are practicing or getting alcohol addiction treatment every day. Most professionals agree an aggressive detoxification, a closely monitored program for a time period, followed by a twelve-step program are most reliable in treating alcoholism. But you can also consider purchasing home breathalyzer or breathalyzer keychain that can resist an alcoholic from taking alcohol on daily basis. For your information, Alcoholics Anonymous is the most popular and respected twelve step program available. Those participating in a twelve step program, especially when used as part of a tiered approach, are more effective in abstinence than those who prefer to not take part.

But before joining a program such as this, those who are seeking sobriety often enter into either an in-patient or out-patient alcohol treatment program that will lay the foundation so they might successfully abstain once they’re away from the structured environment these programs provide. But what are the most effective alcohol treatment programs and how does one make the right choice?

There’s been a recent interest in treatments, partly due to recent televised programs that outline how these gatherings work. Again, success rates vary, but when completed properly and with the best goals in mind; numerous families can convince a loved one they need help. These interventions include family members and close friends who agree with the shared goal of convincing a loved one she or he has a problem that can take advantage of professional help.

Generally, the alcoholic denies there being a problem and only when forced to take a step back and reconsider do they agree to begin therapy or any kind of program geared toward alcoholism. Once the loved one agrees to begin treatment, they are quickly taken away to a pre-determined facility. The purpose of getting the plans in place before the intervention is to keep any downtime to a minimum.

Once in alcohol treatment, the alcoholic undergoes extensive detox to rid the body of the physical remnants and all traces of alcohol. Afterwards, during extensive therapy, the alcoholic can then begin to understand the causes of taking that first drink, why and how it became a problem and triggers which can be pinpointed to particular times when he or she was most vulnerable. Most alcohol treatment facilities agree an in-depth understanding and uncovering of “layers” can only result in the right tools to effectively deal with problems and lessen the chance of further damage. Lastly, they can understand it’s not about reducing the amount of alcohol consumption, but rather, total abstinence is being the best way.

Combination of Alcohol Treatment Methods

As mentioned, experts say an approach that incorporates a combination of methods is the most effective. Usually, after successfully completing the aggressive in-patient or out-patient programs, alcoholics are strongly encouraged to enter into a twelve-step program. Indeed, those who have successfully mastered abstinence for several years agree their success was greatly improved by attending daily meetings.

Regardless of which combination one decides, the point is to find the best suited alcohol treatment program which will save your loved one’s life. There are many avenues that offer hope to the loved ones and help for the alcoholic.

Breast Implants – Information & Advice

Posted on March 19th, 2011 by admin in general, womens health issues | No Comments »

Breast implants are prostheses used to enhance and alter the size and shape of a woman’s breasts. The procedure, known as breast augmentation, breast enlargement, mammoplasty enlargement and augmentation mammoplasty, is most often done for cosmetic reasons and breast reconstruction. The latter is most commonly found in women who have had mastectomies or to correct congenital chest wall deformities. They are also used as an aspect of gender transition surgeries. Breast augmentation is the most common cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States.

Breast implants come in all sizes. Some women are looking for a very subtle boost, while others want the va va voom of a DD cup. The women most commonly seeking breast augmentation are young females. Looking out in the world, some implants are nearly unrecognizable. These are most frequently the implants that are a subtle chest enlargement, or a breast reconstruction. Most women who have mastectomies do not opt for a drastic change from their original breast size. That Playboy image of large breast implants is not always the norm.

Saline and silicone breast implants are the two implants available on the market today. Saline (salt water) implants were developed in 1964 with the goal of smaller surgical incisions. This is achieved by not inflating the implant until it has been placed inside the breast. Silicone implants were developed in 1961 and have undergone significant changes since. Each change, called a “generation” has increased quality and safety. The current generation, fifth, has the most significant safety improvements, including a new semi-solid gel that prevents the silicone in the breast from migrating.

There are many different surgical procedures for breast augmentation. Each of these surgical procedures has a different placement and is used for different reasons. These procedures vary by incision type, implant material and implant pocket placement. It is important to consult your doctor to decide which procedure is right for you, as each procedure yields different results and can result in different scarring. The different incision locations are below the breast, along the areolar border, in the armpit, the navel and the abdomen.

The immediate results of breast augmentation are larger, newly shaped, or new breasts (for mastectomy and transgender patients). There are, however, common risks in breast augmentation surgery. The first complications can arise from the surgery itself – adverse reactions to anesthesia, post-operative bleeding or fluid collection, surgical site infection, breast pain or alterations in sensation, and thinning of the breast tissue. The surgery can also result in unsightly scarring. Breast implants can remain intact for decades but all fail at some point and will need to be replaced.
